The LWL-12 is designed to save weight while still offering more firepower than the much smaller M260. By removing the bottom two rows from the M261, the LWL-12 reduces the weight by 40%. The launcher also allows for low ground clearance on rotary aircrafts. Adaptation to a maritime environment is also applicable of the LWL-12. Additionally, the launcher fires through on-board firing systems.
